I appreciate and am humbled by the International Association of Fire Fighters Local 4321 members for their endorsement of me to be the next sheriff of Broward County.
As a law enforcement officer, it is truly an honor to have the support of IAFF firefighters and emergency medical technicians.
As professionals, you are on-call and on the road, saving lives and property. You are always ready to protect us – in neighborhoods from fires and hazardous materials; at accidents, binding injuries and saving lives; and on or beneath the water, giving the breath of life, and rescuing people.
Every day, your members are put in harm’s way to protect and save the lives of Broward residents and visitors – no matter how old, no matter where they are or where they live, no matter their income, and no matter the color of their skin. Yours is truly a universal service – meaning that you serve and protect all of us – including your BSO brothers and sisters – all of the time.
As your sheriff, I will protect you. Unlike the current sheriff, you will have personal protective equipment before you know you need it to protect you from Covid-19 and other diseases.
As your sheriff, I will listen to you. When you make a case that your people need new firefighting and life-saving equipment, and more training – and we can budget for it – you will have it.
As your sheriff, I will serve to you. I will be your trusted and experienced leader who will work with an outstanding team of fire-rescue, law enforcement and civilian professionals to guide and rebuild this excellent agency.
And as your sheriff, I will care about you. I know that some of your members have PTSD from harsh and life-changing experiences while on duty. My mission will be to help your BSO brothers and sisters before it becomes an overwhelming personal crisis to themselves and their families.
As your sheriff, I will be here for you. Protecting. Listening. Serving. Caring. But most importantly, and with your help, transforming the Broward Sheriff’s Office into the leading fire-rescue and law enforcement agency that we all can be proud of.
Thank you and god bless all of you.
